Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a 65 000 km2 playground! Outdoors enthusiasts get rashes from pinching themselves to check if they aren’t daydreaming when faced with so many opportunities to live an intimate contact with the spectacular wilderness so close at hand. It comes as no surprise that more than 40 000 fishermen live their passion here and that more than half of all of Quebec’s hunting camps are found in the Temiscabitibian forest! Camping enthusiasts, kayakers, hikers and ORV riders also have many opportunities to enjoy this lavish nature.
Most municipalities have sports facilities such as gymnasiums, arenas, soccer fields and play grounds. In addition to these infrastructures, you’ll find curling clubs, magnificent golf courses and kilometres of cycling paths on the Route Verte. High performance hockey fans won’t be disappointed: there are two junior major teams in the region: the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
Furthermore, non scientific studies show that the region has the highest rate per capita of service clubs, community kitchens, astronomy clubs, sewing, writing and painting workshops or well stacked libraries to help young and old travel to the vastest of lands: their imagination.
