[…] over 20 festivals have joined the cultural landscape of the region since 2000.
How can such a young region be blessed with this impressive artistic tradition and this rich and diverse cultural life? This is just another example of Abitibi-Témiscamingue’s mysteries. Here, the challenge isn’t finding something to do but rather choosing between a staggering range of activities!
The Festival du cinéma international, the Festival de musique émergente, the Festival d’humour (comedy festival), the Festival de contes et légendes (legends and stories), the Salon du livre (book fair), the Biennale internationale d’art miniature, the Festival de la relève indépendante musicale, the Festival des Langues sales (regional French language), the Festival du DocuMenteur (fake documentary), Le Paradis du Nord: large scale events overlap and artists literally jockey about to participate drawn by the enthusiasm and the warm welcome of the locals. Actually, more than 20 festivals have joined the cultural landscape of the region since 2000.
Trendy bars as well as church basements also host many activities. Numerous venues and historical societies work to bring to life and share our heritage. The rich regional cultural scene includes many improv leagues, film societies, theatre companies, storytellers, artist centers and a symphony orchestra…
While many significant artists come from here (Richard Desjardins, Dany Bédar, Jean-Mance Delisle, Philippe B., Raôul Duguay, Anodajay, Lise Bissonnette, Roy Dupuis and Gildor Roy, just to name a few), an impressive artistic community is at work in the region and could easily include you : opportunities to practice you art and showcase your talent are as plentiful as the number of events presented.
